3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr

Kailan - M.Y.M.P.

Image
Lovely rendition of Kailan by M.Y.M.P. From Wikipedia . M.Y.M.P. (or MYMP, short for Make Your Momma Proud) is an acoustic band act from the Philippines, which consists of five members. Their career started when Raymond Ryan, a station manager of iFm watched one of their gigs, and met up with a producer to produce their 2003 debut album, Soulful Acoustic, which has since been certified Platinum. Kailan was original sung by the group Smokey Mountain which had had James Coronel, Geneva Cruz, Jeffrey Hidalgo, and Tony Lambino as its original members. And here's an amazing guitar solo of Kailan by Lex Von Sumayo. Finally, a Bossa Nova version by one of the original members of Smokey Mountain, Jeffrey Hidalgo.

Andy Williams - Moon River

Image
I love this song. I used to listen to it all the time when I was younger. RIP Andy Williams. "Moon River" is a song composed by Johnny Mercer (lyrics) and Henry Mancini (music) in 1961, for whom it won that year's Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was originally sung in the movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" by Audrey Hepburn, and has since been covered by many other artists. The song also won the 1962 Grammy Award for Record of the Year. It became the theme song for Andy Williams, who first recorded it in 1961 and performed it at the Academy Awards ceremonies in 1962. Williams's version was disliked by Cadence Records president Archie Bleyer, who believed it had little or no appeal to teenagers. Andy Williams's version never charted, except as an LP track, which he recorded for Columbia in a hit album of 1962. Williams said he never tired of singing "Moon River," whose melody he considered "beautiful" and whose lyrics h

CSA teen on bully's gun-toting Dad: 'I really thought he'd shoot my brains out'

Image
From InterAksyon.com MANILA, Philippines – At first glance, Jamie Garcia seems like an unlikely target of bullies. He towers at more than 6 feet tall and has a rather gentle, apologetic, demeanor. But Jamie has been bullied and mocked at the Colegio San Agustin (CSA) School in Makati where he is on his senior year in high school. His butt and genitals were often poked by one of his male classmates, his main tormentor. Then on August 30, after months of constant taunts and harassment, Jamie had enough. He stabbed one of the bullies with a ballpen and punched another. The incident escalated when the father of the classmate he punched rushed to his school, slapped and threatened him with what he recalled was a .45-caliber gun. “I really thought he’d shoot my brains out,” Jamie told InterAksyon before granting his first full interview on TV5’s morning show, ‘Good Morning Club.’ Jamie’s father, Mike, was oblivious to the bullying until he was called that day to his son’s school.

Ganito Ang Epal

Image
You see banners and tarps put up by politicians all over the country claiming they were the ones responsible for certain projects and developments which we call "Epal". For some people, this has become the way it is and have turned a blind eye on these things. You can't really blame them because the country is so big that it's easy to just dismiss them. But, what if we were to reduce the size of the Philippines into the size of a house. Now imagine your servant (public servant that is) were to claim responsibility for everything that was done to your house. Now remember, you are the one paying the salary of the servant and for everything else. Your servant doesn't pay a single penny on anything. This is what your house would look like. Mars Curiosity Descent - Ultra HD

Image
If you were blown away by the video of the descent of the Mars Curiosity released by NASA, you'll be blown away by this Ultra HD version of the video. This video was interpolated and enhanced. It was created from the original 4 fps video from NASA and expanded to 30fps for smooth animation and plays in real-time at the speed of the descent of the Mars Curiosity. Here's the info from Youtube. Working frame-by-frame, it took me four weeks to produce this video. It was a painstaking labor of love. You can support my efforts with a donation or a message of support. Ultra-resolution, smooth-motion, detail-enhanced, color-corrected, interpolated from the original 4 frames per second to 30 frames per second. This video plays real-time at the speed that Curiosity descended to the surface of Mars on August 6, 2012. Share this video with your friends. I think it's wonderful that everyone on Earth has a chance to see this amazing footage from Mars :) Produced by Bard Canni

Casiño wants clear definition of 'epal'

Image
You know, sometimes I wonder if these politicians are doing it on purpose or just plain dumb. It's unethical to put your name anywhere! Be it a billboard, tarps, funeral, fiesta, road work, birthdays, etc. It's not your money you're spending, it's the people's money. EPAL means papel or ma-papel or pumapapel. It's a Filipino slang where the syllables are put backwards like sigarilyo becomes yosi. Epal means taking credit for something which a lot of politicians do. It's simple really, if you want to put a politicians name anywhere, the first requirements is that they will have to be dead first. Simple as that.

Fire at Tutuban Center

Image
There was a fire at Tutuban Center Mall's Cluster Building 1 in Divisoria . The fire started around midnight yesterday. The mall is full of stores selling textiles and clothes which makes it difficult to contain and adds fuel to the fire. Here are some photos of the fire taken by some friends. Fire at Tutuban Center Cluster Building 1 Photo courtesy of Rob Chan Photo courtesy of Cary Yu Photo courtesy of Jayson Agero Ngo The following photos are from TXTFIRE PHILIPPINES's Facebook Page . The famous Ube fire brigade of Chinatown At 30 hours and counting. Courtesy of DZMM TeleRadyo I heard from the grapevine that the fire may have been set on purpose. This is because Tutuban Center is actually owned by the government and the tenants don't rent the stall indefinitely nor did they buy it. They bought a right to rent it for 25 years and the agreement is ending by 2014. If they want to renew, they will have to pay a hefty fee to renew their rights and m
