3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr

Amazing Act Of Sportsmanship

Image
Mitchell Marcus is manager of his school’s basketball team, the Coronado High School Thunderbirds. Due to a developmental disability he’s never been able to take part in a game. However, for the last game of the season, his coach Pete Morales told him to suit up. He didn’t expect to actually play, but just wearing the jersey with his teammates was a thrill in itself. Mitchell didn't know but coach Morales was going to put him in the game at the end of the fourth quarter, regardless of the score. With just over a minute left, Mitchell was put onto the court for the first time, and set up shop near the net. His teammates passed him the ball a number of times, but he was never able to make a basket. During his last attempt, the ball went out of bounds. With just seconds left in the game, it looked like he wouldn’t get another chance. Then, one of the finest acts of sportsmanship you’ll ever see occurred. Watch.

The Marcos Years - History of the EDSA Revolution from the perspective of Roberto V. Ongpin

Image
I found this interesting article from the Inquirer regarding the Marcos years leading to the EDSA revolution from the perspective of Roberto V. Ongpin who was Marcos' Minister of Trade and Industry. It's an interesting look at Philippine political history. Here's an excerpt. When the phone rang one day in May 1979, he was not to know that he would be caught in one of the most tumultuous chapters in Philippine history. “Do you know what time it is in London?” Roberto V. Ongpin said, the drowsiness evident in his voice. “It is 4 a.m.” “Bobby, the President wants to talk to you,” said the voice at the other end, half a world away in Malacañang. It was Ruben Ancheta, an aide to President Ferdinand Marcos. “Pare, please, give me two hours,” Ongpin said. “All right. I will tell him,” Ancheta said. Ongpin told the story of how he was conscripted by Marcos in an interview with the Inquirer at his penthouse office in the Alphaland Southgate Tower, a shopping mall an

Inday: I believe that my acquired skills, training and expertise in management with the use of standard tools, and my discipline and experience will contribute significantly to the value of the work that you want done. My creativity, productivity and work-efficiency and the high quality of outcome I can offer will boost the work progress. Amo: [Nagdugo ang ilong.] Makaraan ang dalawang araw, umuwi ang amo, nakitang may bukol si Junior. Amo: Inday, bakit may bukol si Junior? Inday: Compromising safety with useless aesthetics, the not-so-well engineered architectural design of our kitchen lavatory affected the boy's cranium with a slight boil at the left temple near the auditory organ. Spray paint art is an art form using spray paint, traditionally on posterboard. It differs from graffiti art in that graffiti is performed on buildings, trains and the like, as opposed to more traditional art surfaces. This is a unique form of art that is generally performed on the street in large metropolitan cities creating surreal landscapes of planets, comets, pyramids, cities, nature scenes, etc.

In the face of the struggle for Philippine independence, Dr. Jose P. Rizal believed that the future of the country lies in its youth. But if he were alive today, witnessing the struggles of our children, would he still have the same conviction? In a town where a childrens beauty pageant was recently held, several girls were willing to sacrifice health and safety to win the crown. In the mountains of Montalban, Rizal, minors carry the weight of poverty upon their backs. There are more than two million cases of child labor in the Philippines today. The country, still struggling with poverty, is still a long way off to ending child labor. However, all is not lost. The perseverance of non government agencies like Dynamic Teen Company to uplift the condition of Filipino children has produced positive results. Cris, for example, used to be a scavenger. The cart he once used to carry waste materials is now loaded with blackboards, chalks, and books. At a young age, he teaches his fellow s

A Homeless Boy With A Big Heart

A homeless 13-year-old Filipino won a very prestigious award for his commitment to improving the lives of fellow street kids. Cris "Kesz" Valdez, who lived off a trash dump and slept in an open tomb for the majority of his childhood, was awarded last year's International Children's Peace Prize in The Hague on September 19, receiving $130,000 in prize money. At the age of seven, Kesz Valdez founded "Championing Community Children," a charity that raises funds to hand out necessities to street kids in Cavite City. The Championing Community Children has handed out more than 5,000 gifts, including sandals, clothes, candy and toys, to poor children living in the slums around Manila. Kesz's message to the children of the world; "Our health is our wealth! Being healthy will enable you to play, to think clearly, to get up and go to school and love the people around you in so many ways. To everyone in the world, please remember that every day, 6,000 chil

Pope Benedict XVI To Step Down

From InterAksyon ROME - Pope Benedict will step down as head of the Catholic Church on February 28, the Vatican confirmed on Monday, apparently for health reasons. In a statement released by the Vatican, the Pope said he no longer had the strength to fulfill the duties of his office. He will be 86 on April 16. "Both strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognise my incapacity to adequately fulfil the ministry entrusted to me," the Pope said in a statement. "For this reason, and well aware of the seriousness of this act, with full freedom I declare that I renounce the ministry of Bishop of Rome, Successor of Saint Peter." The Vatican said the papacy is effectively vacant until a successor is chosen. A Vatican official said they expect the period between Benedict's resignation and the election of his successor to be "as brief as possible." The Germ

From Wikipedia Wok with Yan  was a  Chinese cuisine   cooking show  starring  Stephen Yan . The show was first produced in  Vancouver ,  British Columbia ,  Canada  by the  CBC  at  CBUT  from 1980 to 1982. A second edition of the show was also produced in the early 1990s. The popular series was syndicated internationally in  United States ,  Philippines ,  Malaysia ,  Indonesia  and Singapore  for years. The show was famous because in each episode, Yan had a different  pun  on the word " wok " on his  apron .
