3 Cost Effective Ways to Solve Metro Manila's Traffic Problem

Image
The Facebook page of ANC 24/7 is asking for its reader's suggestion on how to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem. This got me thinking, "what is the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem?" It's easy to make suggestions, what's hard is the implementation and the cost of implementation. So what is the the best way to solve Metro Manila's traffic problem and the most cost effective solution? Punitive Fines Add caption First of all, any implementation will definitely cost money, a lot of money. The cause of the traffic mess is the people themselves so it's only right that those causing the traffic problem should be fined and the fine should hurt. That way, the fines will pay for the cost of enforcing the law. The fines should start at P500 and goes up every week if you don't pay it within 15 days. To enforce this and prevent people from ignoring the fine. It will be tied to their driver's license or car registr

Conan O'Brien talks to Charlie Rose

Here's an interview of Conan O'Brien back in 2006. On part three, Charlie Rose asked Conan whether The Tonight Show was the dream. The last video talks about career and some good advice for young people. This is one of the reasons I like Conan, he's very smart and humble, kind of like your wacky older brother who you can talk to and give you great advice on life. It's the same thing he did on his last show on the Tonight Show where you told his audience not to be cynical.

Poor mouse.

Leno On Oprah

Jay Leno was interviewed on Oprah and he gave his side of the story about the debacle with NBC and Conan. He was trying to come out the better man but in the interview, I think he just made himself look more like a cry baby. He said that he didn't push Conan O'Brien out of the Tonight Show but that it was Conan who pushed him out first from when NBC made a deal with Conan O'Brien to keep him from jumping to another network. Here's the interview and video . Jay Leno also talked about his interview with Jimmy Kimmel on 10@10 and that Jimmy Kimmel "suckered-punched" him and he decided to take the high road. Here's the video of Jimmy Kimmel's response to that. It looks like my initial thoughts that Conan O'Brien being the better man is dead on.

More Videos of Apple iPad

I've been reading a lot of comments about the Apple iPad and I would say 90% of the comments are negative. Here's the most common complaints. 1. No Flash. 2. No multi-tasking 3. No camera 4. Tied to AT&T 5. Oversized iPhone 6. iPhone OS? It's funny how the Internet dismisses a product that hasn't even come out yet. And they they are already predicting it to fail. Sound like when the iPhone first came out. Sure, there is no guarantee the iPad will sell. Yes, a netbook may be better since it is a full computer. But have you actually used a netbook? It's small, but the performance is horrible for a full computer. If you are using a netbook for its intended purpose of e-mail, web browsing, chat, photo and video. Then yes, the netbook is more capable than the iPad since it can do Flash, video chat, etc. But the netbook is a horrible e-book reader. Who wants to read the New York Times on a netbook? I can barely read the article. Not to mention you can

Teodoro grilled on Arroyo ties

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . =================== MANILA, Philippines – Gilbert Teodoro found himself in the hot seat at a youth forum Friday when he and other presidential candidates were asked whether they would make President Macapagal-Arroyo accountable for anything anomalous that happened in her administration. At the forum at the De La Salle University (DLSU)-Manila campus, moderator Ted Failon asked the presidential hopefuls: “Is there something for which President Arroyo should be held accountable? How should she be made accountable?” At first, Teodoro, the administration presidential candidate, hesitated to give an answer, saying his previous working relationship with the President bars him from doing so. “Just think about it, if I participate (in efforts to prosecute her), people would say ‘lulutuin mo lang’ (you’ll just fix it.) If I don’t participate, people would say I did not work for justice,” said Teodoro, who resigned as defense secretary to run in the

A Brief History Of Da Pinoy

There is a lot of truth on this. Don't know the "historian"- author: This brief history of the Philippines, told by a philosopher of the streets, is probably closest to the truth about ourselves. What's the big deal when Lapu-Lapu killed Magellan in 1521? Nothing much really. During Lapu-Lapu's time, Mactan was strictly tribal. Think small, gid. There were no big ideas such as nationalism or geopolitics. Lapu-Lapu was simply, the local siga-siga and Magellan was the culture-shocked Westerner, a native first-timer in the exotic east. We lionize Lapu-Lapu as a hero and nationalist. Ang totoo, mayabang lang si Lapu-Lapu. But his defeat of a foreign invader, did not make a Filipino nation. The timing was wrong.. And don't you believe that bull That Spanish explorers came to find spices of the East to improve the taste of their bland cuisine. Their hidden agenda was to spread their kingdom through colonization, the euphemism for land grabbing. During th

Thoughts On The New Apple iPad

After looking at the demo and specs of the new Apple iPad. This is my take on it. It's basically a big iPod Touch. But it's an iPod Touch with productivity apps like iWork designed specifically for the Apple iPad. It runs all your standard iPhone and iPod Touch apps from the app store. Games will be a big thing on this as it's like a huge kick-ass Nintendo DS. Except for the controls. The accelerometer will have you control it as you would on the iPhone. I used an iPod Touch and use the Calendar, Mail and Address Book a lot. It's certainly nice that the iPad has those as well. The iBook Store is certainly a good feature to have. The strength of the Apple mobile devices doesn't come from the device itself, but from the App Store. If you think about it, a lot of other devices has more features and are cheaper than the iPod or iPhone. But how come Apple devices outsells the competition? It's because of the App Store. Sandisk makes a better MP3 player and

The New Apple iPad

Image
Apple has unveiled it's new tablet computer called the iPad. It is basically a large iPhone with 9.7" screen, LED backlit IPS display, WIFI 802.11n built in, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR and optional 3G radio. All iPhone and iPod Touch apps runs on it unmodified. It runs on the new 1Ghz Apple A4 chip and includes 16-64Gb of flash storage. It's 0.5" thin and 1.5 pounds. Full capacitive multi-touch display. They are offering the iPad with AT&T 3G for $14.99 for 250mb of data and $29.99 for unlimited data. It is also unlocked and no contract so you can move to any carrier you want. It plays Youtube HD video and it also looks like the games on the iPad are smooth. Prices start at $499 for the 16Gb model, $599 for the 32GB model and $699 for the 64Gb model. If you want the 3G built-in, it's an extra $130. Perhaps the most exciting new feature is the iBooks store for the iPad. It combines the use of a netbook for web browsing, e-mail, photos, videos and music wi

How To Pick Locks Like A Pro

Image
Saw this on how to pick a combination lock. As far as I know, this works best for "Master" locks. Via: Online Education It is quite a bit of work. So I think this other method is faster. Note, I'm posting this for information only and not advocating the misuse of this information. I'm simply showing you that some locks are not that great for security. You have to buy the lock that will suit the level of security you need. Remember, if you do the crime, you do the time.

Pimentel apologizes; Roxas gets ice cream, cake

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer. ================== MANILA, Philippines—Sen. Manuel “Mar” Roxas’ remark that it was a pity some men turn vulgar when they grow old may have worked. On Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr. asked for forgiveness for using “intemperate language” during heated Senate debates on Monday on a resolution seeking to censure Sen. Manuel Villar over alleged “double insertions” in the controversial C-5 road budget. Pimentel had said Roxas would have his own “insertions” now that he was married. “To those who I might have hurt in this chamber by the use of intemperate language or unseemly expressions, I apologize and beg their forgiveness from You through You, O Lord,” Pimentel said as he led the chamber in its opening prayer. To keep cool He said that “in the heat, some of us tend to use words that are coarse and vulgar.” “Forgive us, then, O Lord, our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us …” Piment

Conan O'Brien's Last Message To Fans

Here is Conan O'Brien's last message to his fans on his last show at The Tonight Show on January 22, 2010. Listen to the last part of his message as his advice to his fans specially young people. Here's my favorite part of this message: All I ask of you is one thing: please don’t be cynical. I hate cynicism — it’s my least favorite quality and it doesn’t lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you’re kind, amazing things will happen . He had the chance to say something bad to NBC, but instead he thank them for the 20 years NBC has given him. What a classy guy. Here's a link to the full episode of last night's show.

Villar’s leadership

I just got this e-mail. I'm not against Manny Villar or for any of the Presidential candidates. I just found this article interesting and give some people different opinions on the different candidates. Take it how you want. This article came from this the Action for Economic Reform website and was published on January 11, 2010 on Business World , pages S1/4 to S1/5. ===================== Manny Villar is on a roll. The latest survey conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS) shows that he has narrowed the gap between him and Noynoy Aquino, the frontrunner, to 11%. The survey came in the wake of a media blitzkrieg during the holiday season. A friend of mine, an executive in a major television network, conservatively estimates that Villar has spent P2 billion since the third quarter of 2009 for his media campaign. (Other estimates are on the high side, ranging between P3 billion and P4 billion.) should he win, he'll definitely get this back!! another GMA in the making!!

Gibo Teodoro

Image
It looks like Gibo Teodoro is moving up through the polls. Here are some photos from his Facebook fan page. The Philippine Daily Inquirer explains why Gibo won the mock polls in Cebu. It was also Teodoro who came out the winner in the mock polls conducted at the forum. Out of 935 votes cast, Teodoro got 456, Aquino a far second with 296, followed by Villar (88), Gordon (45), Villanueva (29), Estrada (19) and Perlas (2). It was noted, however, that Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, a Teodoro supporter, had brought with her the administration mayors, their relatives and staff who vastly outnumbered the crowd brought by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes. Only those inside the plenary hall where the forum was held were allowed to vote in the mock polls. Here's another photo from the Gibo Teodoro fan's page on Facebook.   The campaign of course is focused on pulling down Noynoy Aquino as he is deemed to be the man to beat. Here's a newspaper article about Noyn

Ivler’s ma asks US embassy to take custody of son

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . ================== MANILA, Philippines—The mother of road rage murder suspect Jason Ivler said the US embassy should take custody of her son, just like what it did for erstwhile rape suspect Daniel Smith, because just like Smith, Ivler "fought for his country." “I would like the US embassy to take him in their custody because it's their job to protect their citizens, more so my son who fought for his country,” Marlene Aguilar on Wednesday said, adding her American citizen son served in the US military and was deployed to Iraq. Smith, a US marine soldier who, in 2006 was found guilty for the 2005 rape of a Filipino woman in Subic, Olongapo, was sneaked out of the Makati City jail and brought to the US embassy by government agents shortly after his conviction, after the Philippine government decided to comply with the provisions in the RP-US Visiting Forces Agreement, without waiting for a court ruling on the contested issue. 11-Year-Old Writes iPhone App, Donates Proceeds to Charity

Saw this article on Treehugger.com . An 11 year old boy--one who received medical care from UCLA's Medical Center and Orthopedic Hospital--has created an iPhone app benefiting children still under the facility's care. Last year, Cameron had fallen ill and was unable to participate in his usual round of physical activities. While held up, he became overly interested in computer programming. He started reading anything he could get his hands on. He even took lessons from Stanford at Apple's iTunes U. Amazingly, he ended up teaching himself quite a few different programming languages. His studies eventually zeroed in on Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch. And after tinkering with a few different creations, he completed a painting/drawing program called iSketch. The app was approved by Apple back in December and is now for sale. Amazing what kids can do! Full story here .

Pacquiao-Clottey rumble gets grand, glitzy kickoff

From the Philippine Daily Inquirer . ================== MANILA, Philippines—Even the fans at the stands won’t be denied seeing the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey showdown for the World Boxing Organization welterweight crown on March 13 up close. The 5-foot-6 Filipino ring icon and his 5-foot-8 Ghanian challenger will be magnified as 70-footers on the world’s largest high definition television when they battle it out at the $1.2-billion Cowboys’ Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Billionaire Jerry Jones, owner of the Dallas Cowboys and co-promoter of the first boxing bout at the world’s biggest domed stadium, put up a grand kickoff press conference for “The Event” Tuesday in Arlington, with pompom-waving cheerleaders, former boxing champions and former Super Bowl winners in attendance. No wonder, Pacquiao, Clottey and promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank gushed over the 80,000-seat facility that would be reconfigured to accommodate 40,000 fight fans close to the way it was during the lavish

New Robbery Method used in Ladies' Restroom

I got this from an e-mail and I don't know if this is true, but it doesn't hurt to be careful. ================== Ladies...please take care! New theft technique. Just received this latest theft technique used by robbers. It seems feasible so take heed. Warning to all the ladies out there; and men please inform your significant other. (And, hey, it could happen to the guys!) The Latest Scam: Robbing Females using the restroom/ladies bathroom at a Shopping Mall... The way the scam works, a man slips into a women's rest room and sneaks into a unit. He waits until there is only one woman in the restroom in a neighboring unit/stall. The criminal then stands on the toilet seat and points a hand gun into the next unit/stall, demanding the woman's valuables. After getting her cash and jewellery, he demands that she removes all of her clothing and kicks them out of the unit/stall. The thief tosses the clothing into a shopping bag, hangs an 'out of order sign
